Caves Field Trip

We finished up our rocks and minerals unit study this past week. Our big field trip was to Crystal Grottoes Caverns in Boonsboro. It blows my mind that no matter what we study, there is someplace to go for a trip within and hour drive. The beauty of D.C. and the Appalachian mountains. Mammy and Gramps joined us for our trip.  We had just finished our week by reading a story about two children lost in a wild cave that have a bat that talks them through it. We have been trying to picture what it would be like, so this was great. We re-read the story today and it was very fun for the boys to be able to understand what the characters were thinking, feeling and seeing.
The photos are a little dark - but I think that should be a given.

Waiting our turn! There was a group ahead of us so we had to wait a few minutes before our tour started.

Yep, still a way out...
