Pumpkins, Knives and Power Tools - Cronkite Style

Last Sunday the rain stopped and the sun came out so we decided to go get our pumpkins. Well, every other family in Frederick County had the same idea. We had decided to try Summer's Farm this year as it boast lots of kid activites. Well, there are no words for the amount of cars parked in the lot. The lot also was on a up-hill slope, which possibly made it appear even worse. We decided to go to Jumbos, where we have gone every year since we moved to Maryland. Luckily it was not nearly as busy.

There was a small petting farm there that the boys really could care less about. They were, however very amused by the 'free roaming' animals. There were roosters running around - ok, there were roosters around and kids chasing them - and then a goat jumped out of his pen. After being tailed by several toddlers (I would like to report that there was not a Cronkite involved, although Ben did ask if he could chase it) the goat jumped back in his pen. It was quite entertaining.

Checking out the pigs.

After looking at the animals, we got on the tractor for the hay ride to the pumpkin patch. Nicholas very much enjoyed eating the hay. We tried for some group photos but poor Nicholas didn't show up due to being on my back.

Does this have my daily fiber value?

Nicholas is in there - look closely to the left and you can see his leg / foot!

Once we got to the pumpkin patch we found that there were no pumpkins. But, the boys had fun anyway. Ben was in hot pursuit and decided that the paths were just a guideline. Nathan, of course, was right behind him but Nathan isn't nearly as coordiated as his brother and spent most of the search on the ground. We found one kinda orange pumpkin and decided to pick some out back at 'pre - picked' spot.

This pumpkin had a huge rotten section.

After paying for our pumkins the kids had fun playing on the hay pile in the kid zone. The boys were so cute. Ben hurried to the top with the other kids and Nathan stood at the bottom because he couldn't climb up. Ben saw this and went back down to help his brother out. What a sweetie.

Having fun in the cut outs. I think the one of all three looks like a scene from the opening credits of the Brady Bunch.

Nathan got pretty bored fast when it came to carving. Ben had a blast. I think it was because he got to use a knife.

Nathan and his knife. We soon realized, not a great idea

And the finished product! Mr Potatoe Head Pumpkin is Nathans. Sam did the really cool spider web. Ben made the one on the left and the one on the right he carved at a Pumpkin Party we went to on Saturday night. Now, if your thinking, that pumpkin on the right has a big hole in it - here is the thing. Ben wanted a 'scary' pumpkin and he said that the hole above the eye is his bo-boo.

All three carved.

All three lite up on our porch.

And on a completely different note, Nicholas had his power tool encounter and I had to put the pictures on here!
