Run to Feed Haiti

We had a very active Saturday (yesterday).  We started the day with the 'Sweep Day' - a national event to clean up the neighborhood. Ben and Nathan participated in trash clean up with their scout crew while Mom and Nicholas packed for the rest of the day.  I don't have photos as I forgot to give Sam the camera!
From there we filled bellies at CiCi Pizza and headed to Thurmont for a soccer game.  Ben played awesome and it was a very fast game, sadly the lost 0-1 but they played their hearts out! From there we high tailed it to the Frederick Fairgrounds for the Frederick Running Festival.

Nicholas competed in the kids fun run ages 5 & under. It was a 100yd dash and in true Nicholas nature, he lined up and ran by himself. I had a hard time tracking him down once all the kids took off but finally caught up to him close to the finish line which was good because he was starting to wonder what the purpose was and where to go!!
Frederick Keys mascot Keyote who ran the 1/4mile run. Nathan and Nicholas are on the far right (Nathan in Blue shirt) Ben is in back in his green team shirt.

Ushered into the finish line with Mom

A happy finisher all the kids got medals

A small part of team Feed Haiti.  These are our friends the Hubners (Dave and Christie in the middle). Their daughter Ila (far left front) is from the orphanage we were raising money for. Their other children Jonas and Mathis and Nicholas and Ben.

At around 5:45pm we lined up with 1500 runners for the 5K.  Ben was feeling the excitement from the runners, the energy in the music and getting really ready to go! Sam tried to take a photo of all the runners. There were so many that you have to actually piece both of the photos below together to get it all in.

We are somewhere in the mix below!

1/2mile down - 2.6 to go!

At about mile 2.5 Ben was starting to get tired -= and we were going up hill.  We pushed on and finished in 41 minutes (my goal for him was 45 so I was very excited). The last 0.1 was on the track in front of the crowd and Ben decided to sprint - somehow I kept up!

FINISHED!

With my runners

Thank you so much to everyone that donated to the cause! As a team, we raised over $4500!!!
