We took a break on Saturday from our hard work to attend the sheep shearing demonstrations at the local farm coop. The kids had a blast watching the activities and, most importantly, seeing the lambs and baby mini goats. Ben really liked the baby goats.
This little guy kept getting on the box and then was very scared to get off the box. It was very exciting for Ben who kept saying, Mom! He is on the box again!
This lady was amazing. She was my size and handled these 180lb sheep like they were nothing. She made it look so easy. The other shearer said that one day she had completed 100 sheep. Wow.
Here the kids are rolling the fibers into balls. You can see the back of Nathan's head (in black), Nicholas in the brown coat and of course Ben. The other children belong to my friend Jenn.
Nicholas really got into it.
Once we got home, it was back to work. Here, Ben is helping Sam remove a dead azalea root ball. I told him to put some elbow grease behind it.
Nicholas happily loading mulch. Child labor starts young in our house.
New stepping stones off of the back patio and a much expanded flower bed area. I can't wait to buy plants!
We, ok, I decided that we should add flower beds along the other side of our house as it is so drab with the solid brick. Sam came up with this ingenious way to get rid of the sod quickly since there is a concrete wall on that side. The boys were concerned. I told them Daddy would never do anything that he thought was dangerous. Right?
Next Sam re-configured to allow the boys access to bring mulch to the new beds. This was the highlight of the day for them.
Your probably thinking, it is going to take forever to get mulch down using those dump trucks. Well, your right!
And the finished product - ready for warm weather and plants.
I lost the photos I took Friday which is a real bummer as there was a great one of the three boys in the trailer, covered in mulch. We had mulch in places that it really shouldn't be. After dinner we worked on puzzles. Ben completed his first 200 piece puzzle by himself.
Nicholas working on his number train puzzle. I like this one because I just need to tell him what animal is on the picture. This has been a huge hit with all the boys.
Nathan working hard.
And that is our weekend! I will load photos once we have plants in as it will look much nicer! Hopefully tomorrow I am not posting photos in their snowsuits......
