Are You an American Logger?

Wow, we are back! I feel like we have been gone forever. So much to report and show, so I'll have to do it in stages.

Sam went to the University Forest to visit some old co-workers and Ben was like, "Are you an American Logger?" Ben is obsessed with that show and it is quite strange to watch a show on cable tv that is from a place we have spent a lot of time (my family is from Millinocket). So, we decided we would need to take a trip up to Pelletiers and show Ben what he sees on tv.

The sad part is that a drive down the Golden Road isn't what it use to be. When we were growing up, the wood would be stacked as high as it could be and lining the road. Now, not the case. Just the drive into town was so sad as both mills are now closed. Not the hustle and bustle of my childhood or my parents. We drove through Pelletiers lot and showed him the trucks and then headed down the Golden Road for some long lost run-ins with street illegal logging trucks. Man, how do you spell out of stater? Driving down and Maine logging road in a minivan with a roof top carrier and Maryland plates. Yessir. Ah -yah, we are from Maine - really!

After the drive we went to the Pelletier's new restaurant in town (as shown below)

Before eating we went into the gift shop and the boy were enamored by the model triple trailer log truck they had. For those that watch the show (or for our Maine friends, who know the Pelletier brothers) Rudy was headed into the restaurant. Sam was like, hey Ben, see that guy he is an American Logger! His wife Lisa worked in the gift shop and we chatted for awhile and she got a kick out of the boys. Ben got a Pelletier brothers logging t-shirt and on our way out Lisa was like, I want to give the boys something. Well, something was a stuffed moose with a Pelletier Loggers logo. how nice of them!

Showing off their stuffed Moose.

Dinner in the restaurant is a whole other story. My goodness, they FLIPPED OUT when they saw the stuffed moose head on the wall. It was sooo embarrassing especially since the loggers were all at the bar having a drink. Sigh. I guess we didn't realize they have never seen one before.

It was so weird to feel like a complete tourist in a town where I spent so much of my childhood.
Needless to say, the afternoon was the highlight of Ben's vacation and heck, that is all that matters right?

On to another story: L.L. Bean had an amazing display. A lady in western Maine found two Bull moose who had gotten locked up in a fight and couldn't get apart - therefore dying that way. She donated the rack to Inland Fishery and Wildlife and with funding from L.L. Bean they re-created the scene and had a nice display showing the re-creation. The boys didn't see this as Sam and I were alone - man, they might have hard a heart attack!
